Today’s prompt for the 100 word story is: “No matter what you hear, no matter how badly you want to, do NOT open your eyes.”
Here’s the funny thing. When I first heard the prompt, I was thinking something more Indiana Jones-esque. But, then I was riding with my family-listening to a Peter Gabriel album-and the song ‘Intruder’ came on.
And I listened to the lyrics.
And my brain took off in a different direction.
Thanks a lot, brain. Thanks. A. Lot. The Story:
Amelia stretched in bed, eyes closed, darkened room silent. Her long hair cascaded off of the bed’s edge. A tug at her hair from the floor made her brace for her cat’s arrival. Captain Meowcolm Reynolds always batted her hair before jumping.
But there was no leaping cat. Then she heard his growl…outside.
She thought, “Amelia, no matter what you hear, no matter how badly you want to, do NOT open your eyes.”
But she had to. The handful of hair she pulled back from the edge had been cut straight off.
Then she heard the whispers from the floor.
In case you were wondering about that song: (enjoy 😉 )

Best name for a cat EVER!
So creepy… This song is super freaky… I love it. And this story is just not complete at 100 words. I want to know more about what’s going on, and if Amelia’s going to make it out ok!

ooooh, nice. Can’t open the link to the song, but I’ll keep trying. Love how our brains can totally take simple words and creep us out.

Laura- does yours show only the link to the song? The video was supposed to be embedded so you could play it from this page. Strange. *sigh*
