WonHundred Word Wednesday: In all the years I’ve lived here, I never once called this place my home.

Today’s 100 word story is based on the prompt: “In all the years I’ve lived here, I never once called this place my home.”

WonHundred Wednesday 6_4
I began pacing again.

My fingers trailed in the dust, leaving an intricate pattern that would be sure to confuse.

In all the years I’ve lived here, I never once called this place my home.

My home would be warm and full of laughter. It would be bright with colors: yellows and reds and purples. Artwork and music.

This? This is silence. This is muted tones of grays and white with golden accents. Statuary and dirges.

This is cold marble. Cold like my body within the casket.

I’m always careful not to look at my name on the stone marker.
