WonHundred Word Wednesday: Reluctantly, he handed over the key.

Today’s one hundred word story is based on the prompt: “Reluctantly, he handed over the key.”

WonHundred Wednesday 6_25

Reluctantly, he handed over the key. Of course, the reluctance was all for show. That fool Overmaster grinned—self-satisfactory way of his—and held his hand out. The steam-powered guards flanked the Overmaster and watched to make sure Devin didn’t try anything funny.

So Devin passed off the key without a fight. He didn’t need to suggest that the Overmaster should be the first one through the locked door. He knew the arrogant man wouldn’t let anyone else in with the treasure.

Devin also didn’t mention the beast that waited inside that room.

Watching over the treasure.

Eating trespassers.
